Refurbishment and re-roofing of a Grade II listed building
Contract Sum: £700,000
Contract Duration: 26 weeks
Client: University of Manchester
Contract Administrator: Rider Levett Bucknall
We worked closely with the University of Manchester to preserve the original character of Whitworth Art Gallery whilst carrying out a major re-roofing and refurbishment scheme.
New roof glazing replicates the original glass roof lights and original tiled walls in the toilets were uncovered and restored to their former glory. The gallery remained fully operational throughout the duration of the works.
“Replacing slate roof coverings and roof glazing on the Grade II listed Whitworth Art Gallery without disruption to the operation of the gallery, or damage to the building and it’s valuable contents, presented a major challenge. Manchester and Cheshire Construction responded effectively and worked closely with consultants Rider Levett Bucknall and University staff to develop carefully planned procedures for carrying out the work.“
