Fast-track refurbishment of 30,000 sq ft warehouse to create a distribution / delivery centre
Contract Sum: £500,000
Contract Duration: 10 weeks
Client: Royal Mail Property Holdings / RLB
Key challenges: Delivering the project on time; Managing the M&E subcontractor
The new distribution centre had to be operational in time for the planned closure of a number of smaller mail centres in the area. The original programme was accelerated at the request of the client from 12 weeks to 10 weeks and we worked additional hours, including weekends, to achieve this. Careful and pro-active management of the contract ensured that all variations were incorporated into the contract with the minimum of fuss and without the requirement of a contract extension.
The key to our success was the effective management of all the works, in particular the M&E subcontractor. Regular progress meetings with the main subcontractors ensured effective weekly planning and programming.
